Individual Tournaments

Events for 2019

There are many exciting events being run by the SAJCL and SACA and others in 2019. Most junior events, like the State Junior Championships, are run in the second week of each of the school holidays,  and the players’ ages are determined by the simple rule – if the event is in the first half of the year – their age is that as of the 1st of January, otherwise, if the event is in the second half of the year, it is their age as of the 1st of July.

The events being run by SACA – the SA Chess Association, are held either over special long weekends or on Tuesday evenings – and while youngsters are encouraged to play in these events, they need to have either done some serious study or had coaching and know how to record their moves.

The City of Adelaide Under 21: Winner: Anthony Huynh, Equal Second were Ethan Retnaraja and David Zhang on 5 points but Ethan was awarded second place on countback.

There were two other Age Sections for the Under 21 and it is quite complex trying to award the Age Prizes fairly, however, that said:

The Under 15 Section: 1st Ethan Liu; equal 2nd Raad Rahman, Jake Steele and Jordan Lewis.
The Under 13 Section: Equal 1st: Oliver Fenton and Alistair Maria; =3rd: Caleb Tang and Dimandiw Kosgallana.

The Daffodil Day Tournaments

These events were held on 27th August 2017 at PAC and were organised by Eddie and Denny Han on behalf of the SA Cancer Council and all funds raised were donated for Cancer Research.

A big thank you to Eddie and Denny for all their work and PAC for providing the wonderful venue. And of course all the great helpers and parents who assisted on the day.

There were 3 tournaments – an Under 19, Under 12 and a Novice Tournament and all were played using chess clocks with 10 minutes per player per game.

Here are the final scores and congratulations to all the players.
