Inter-school Matches 2024

Important NEWS – Composite Teams & 4 players only in all teams this year!!

It was decided at the Annual General Meeting held on 7th March 2023 to permit COMPOSITE teams in the interschool competitions – this means that many players who were unable to play in the Matches because they could not find enough players in their school to make a team, will be able to send their name and details to us and we will make up teams for them to play in – the teams will play all the normal matches as if they were all at the one school but if they win their competition they will not win the title for that competition – that will go the first school team however they will get a special award to recognise their achievement.

And a BIG change

It has also been decided that there will only be 4 players in each team in ALL Grades – that includes Primary A, Secondary Division 1 and Secondary Div 2. This will bring us into line with all the interstate school competitions and should mean that it will be easier to create teams in the Primary A Grade and the Secondary Competitions. Sincere apologies if this causes some angst over the next few weeks.

Secondary – Div 1 played at the Chess Centre – 7 Friday nights – 4 nights in Term 2, 3 in term 3

Secondary – Div 2/3 is played at Prince Alfred College – Division 2 / Division 3: Thursday Term 2: May 9, 23, June 6, 20  T3: Aug 1, 15, 29 – 7pm start 

Division 1 – Term 2: Term 2: May 10, 24, June 7, 21  T3: Aug 2, 16, 30 – 7pm start

Division 2 – Term 2: May 17, 31, June 14, 28, T3: August 9, 23, Sept 6 – 7pm start  (7 nights – double rounds)

Division 3 – Term 2: May 10, 24, June 7, 21  T3: Aug 2, 16, 30 – 7pm start (7 nights – double rounds)

Division 2 / Division 3: PLAYED AT PAC Thursday Term 2: May 9, 23, June 6, 20  T3: Aug 1, 15, 29 – 7pm start 

Primary – played at venues with matches on Fridays – 7 afternoons

Primary  B &C –Term 2: May 10, 24, June 7, 21  T3: Aug 2, 16, 30 – 4pm start

Primary – played on Thursdays – 7 afternoons

Primary A, B & C – Thursday Term 2: May 9, 23, June 6, 20  T3: Aug 1, 15, 29 – 4pm start 

Primary B & C Finals – Sept 13 – 4pm start

EK Shield (Combined A & B Finals) – Sept 20th – 4pm start

All Primary and Secondary teams have only 4 players in each team

The Primary B and C Grades and Secondary Div 3 only have 4 players per team.

Please note that the primary competitions at PAC will take place on Thursday afternoons, not Fridays,  in Term 2 –  starting on May 9th. This means that the Primary A Grade, and the primary B and C Competitions held there will take place on the Thursdays which may prove a benefit or an hindrance to some schools.

There has been such a huge interest in chess in the past couple of years we are pleased to announce that we again are offering a second venue for the Secondary Matches – Prince Alfred College – and this is on a Thursday night – the same dates as the Primary A Grade. It will be called the Div 2/Div 3 Competition and will have 4 players per team and at the end of the season, the Winning team will play a match against the Winning Div 2 team at the Chess Centre and the team that is at the top of the bottom half of the competition will have a match with the winning Div 3 team from the Chess Centre.

The fees to play in the inter-school matches for the year
