2026 State U18-U12 Championships & July Junior Results

July 18th, 2026

These tournaments attracted about 180 of the best juniors in SA and most played matches over the 3 days – in the case of the Under 18 – Under 13 Championships they played 8 long  games, the Under 12 competition had 12 games and the July Junior a total of 23 games. There was lots of excitement, laughter and some inevitable tears.

A big thank you once again to St Peter’s College for allowing us to use their fabulous Junior Hall and its associated facilities and a special shout-out to Jason from St Peter’s who once again helped us enormously each day by initially setting up the hall and providing us with a seemingly unending supply of trestle tables etc and responding to multiple requests! Thanks also of course to Mrs Angelika Bailey and Mr Barnaby Eaton for all their assistance.

Also special thanks to Dr Daniel Kerrigan for managing the actual tournaments – a huge task – not only doing all the draws on the computer and entering the results but corralling the players for each round, untangling the entries for the start of the tournaments on the first day and then calculating all the prize-winners on the final day.

The overall directors of the tournaments were Chee-Fong Cirami and Katie Schiavone who did an amazing job organising a brilliant team of volunteers and arbiters and many thanks to Ethan Retnaraja, Hamish Pattison and William Carrigan. And of course special thanks to our treasurer Carrie Chen and the help provided by Hannah Chen in organising the prize slips etc..

And a special thanks to the parents and carers who brought the students to St Peter’s each day – it is often a tricky thing to arrange but it can be a huge thing in a child’s life!

Below is the list of prize winners for all the tournaments but of course a big congratulations to all the players who took part – not everyone can win a prize but they can make many friends for life and you can learn so much from these serious games.
